Kangaroo Point residents will have a chance to explore the transformed Point Hotel on Lambert Street, where a $15 million refurbishment is bringing new dining spaces, refreshed facilities and a two-day community event designed to welcome locals.
The hotel at 21 Lambert Street is preparing to host A Weekend for the Neighbourhood on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2026, with free activities, family entertainment and opportunities to see parts of the redesigned property.
The event marks a shift in how the long-established hotel hopes to connect with its surroundings. Rather than catering mainly to overnight guests, the property is introducing food, drink and social spaces intended to attract people who live and work nearby.
A familiar hotel takes on a different role
Point Hotel has operated in Kangaroo Point since 1999, making it a familiar part of the neighbourhood for more than 25 years. Its latest refurbishment extends beyond accommodation, with changes to the dining areas, shared spaces and guest facilities.
Melbourne-based design studio Bergman & Co worked with Brisbane hospitality fit-out specialists Unita on the transformation, introducing stone flooring, timber finishes, leather details and a collection of artworks.
Among the additions is a poolside mosaic by Brisbane artist Jane du Rand, featuring Queensland native plants and wildlife. The design reflects the hotel’s broader attempt to draw on its subtropical setting rather than adopt a conventional city-hotel appearance.
The project also includes a signature fragrance developed with Maison 21G, incorporating bitter orange, ginger, cedar and vetiver.
New dining options for Kangaroo Point locals
The most immediate change for residents is KIN Bar & Dining, which has opened on the hotel’s ground floor and welcomes customers who are not staying at the property.
Led by head chef Marcus Turner, KIN offers breakfast, dinner and drinks, with a menu featuring Australian produce, steaks, seafood and contemporary desserts.
Two further hospitality spaces are being introduced.
AIRA Rooftop is planned for Level 12, replacing the former Eagles Nest rooftop venue. The new space is intended to offer cocktails, shared plates, live music and views across Brisbane, although it had not opened at the time of the October announcement.
Frank’s Pantry is another addition, planned as a casual neighbourhood café serving coffee, pastries, sandwiches and light meals. Its focus on everyday dining could make it more relevant to residents looking for a morning coffee or a convenient meeting place than the hotel’s traditional accommodation business.
The hotel’s broader facilities, including its pool and wellness spaces, also form part of the refurbishment program. The project has been presented as a staged transformation, rather than the simultaneous opening of every new venue.
Two days of activities for the neighbourhood
Residents will be able to explore the property during A Weekend for the Neighbourhood, scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on both days.
The advertised program includes live music, portrait drawings, a bouquet bar and children’s creative activities. Families can also visit a kids’ library area, while dog owners will find shaded pet facilities, water and treats.
Complimentary yoga and Pilates sessions are scheduled for both mornings, with yoga at 8:00 a.m. and Pilates at 9:00 a.m. Places are limited, advance bookings are required, and participants should bring their own mats.
Frank’s Pantry is expected to serve $3 coffees and other refreshments during the weekend, alongside complimentary house-made ice cream in vanilla, chocolate and matcha flavours.
Visitors can also collect complimentary gift bags, subject to availability.

For Kangaroo Point, the weekend offers a chance to see how a hotel previously associated mainly with accommodation is changing its relationship with the surrounding streets.
Whether its new dining and café offerings become regular meeting places for locals will become clearer as the remaining venues begin operating.
